Online Learning Tools and Resources
Unruly Splats – Coding + Physical Activity = AWESOME! Get students up and moving using Splats in your classroom by choosing a game from their library of precoded games, or code your own! Teaching online? Try their virtual app to engage students in online or hybrid learning. Check out their website for lots of other helpful resources and tools including lesson plans, class challenges, membership information and more.
Scratch – Learn about block coding to create your own animations, scenes, video games and more. Find out some of the reasons I love using Scratch in my classroom here.
Micro:bit Virtual Simulator – If my students are any indication, then your kids will love programming Micro:bits, even if it’s just a simulator at home.
Code.org – Free access to lots of great coding activities, including my class’ personal favourite: Code Your Own Dance Party.
Scholastic Learn at Home – Scholastic has launched a free collection of learning resources to help deal with school closures. 20 days of learning resources based on 3 hours of work per day.
Curio.ca – An educational streaming platform from primary to post-secondary, including educational programs, documentaries, audio content and archival material from CBC/Radio-Canada is now offering free subscriptions.
Super Teacher Worksheets – I Know It (online math practice tool) available for FREE for 90 days
Education companies offering free subscriptions – Check out this awesome blog post from Kidsactivities.com listing free subscriptions due to school closings. Kidsactivities.com has collected a list of over 100 options! Please note many of these require a teacher to set up an account and set up access through their class. Definitely worth checking out though!

Free 90 Day Trial – IXL is offering teachers a free 90 day trial membership.
Harry Potter at Home – J.K. Rowling, Audible, Bloomsbury, OverDrive, Pottermore Publishing and Scholastic have collaborated to create an online collection of activities and learning resources for children to access while schools are closed.
Free Access to Audible – Amazon has announced that as long as schools are closed access to Audible will be free. Students can listen to a massive collection of books online in 6 different languages.
Free Lorax Activity Guide – Earth Day is approaching and Random House has you all set to celebrate with Dr Seuss’ The Lorax.
PARL has free access to Tumblebooks – If you’re in Pictou or Antigonish you can now access Tumblebooks for free via the Pictou Antigonish Regional Library. All you need is your library card! Don’t have one? Sign up here.
